Responsibilities
- System Design & Integration: Lead the conceptual design and integration of liquid rocket engines and auxiliary propulsion systems for deep space missions.
- Cryogenics Management: Develop thermal management strategies for cryogenic propellants (LOX/LH2) to ensure system performance during long-duration spaceflight.
- Simulation & Analysis: Utilize CFD and FEA tools (ANSYS, STAR-CCM+) to predict flow dynamics, structural integrity, and combustion efficiency under extreme conditions.
- Testing & Validation: Oversee ground testing campaigns, analyze telemetry data, and troubleshoot complex propulsion anomalies to ensure flight readiness.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols and NASA standards (NPR 8719.13) in all engineering processes.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with avionics, materials, and mission operations teams to optimize system-level performance.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Propulsion Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in propulsion systems, preferably within the aerospace or defense industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA). Strong knowledge of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
- Specialized Knowledge: Experience with staged combustion cycles, electric propulsion, or in-space propellant transfer systems is highly desirable.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex engineering problems under pressure with a focus on safety and efficiency.
- Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
